Nina Mount will be 99!
Nina Mount, the oldest Rippey United Methodist Church member, will celebrate her 99th birthday on March 29, 2016. Nina’s daughter, Margaret Mount Rees, shared some Nina stories.
Nina was the first born child of Noah Gregory and Verda Summers Farmer. The family lived in Ulmer, Sac County, IA. Four siblings would round out the family, one dying in infancy. The children attended country school in Sac County. When Nina was in 8th grade, the family moved to Grand Junction, IA. Her dad insisted she repeat the grade to “keep up with the town kids.” also saw her first basketball game.
It is unclear when Warren Mount started “courting” Nina. He was 2-1/2 years older, working on farms, and would ride his horse across the fields to see her.
The couple married Dec. 14, 1935, when Warren was 21 and Nina was 18. The terrible winter of 1936 kept Nina living with her folks until they got a place of their own that spring. Besides Margaret, three other children were born to the family, Darlene Mount Johnson, David and Paul Mount.
Nina was active in Eastern Star, El Carim Club, saddle club rides, played lots of card games, knitted, crocheted, and enjoyed the quilting group at the church. She was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending.
Warren was a “horse man,” buying and selling. He would bring his friends and customers in for coffee at least two times a day, always with Nina’s fresh baked cookies.
When Warren died on July 29, 2015, the couple had been married over 79 years.
Nina is a resident of the Regency Park in Jefferson, 100 Ram Drive, 50129, for those who would like to send a card.
Rippey Lions: Rippey Lions Club will meet Thursday evening March 17, at 7. The meal will be followed by a business meeting. Final plans for the annual Lion’s Club father/son banquet, set for April 2 at the Rippey United Methodist Church, will be discussed. A program will follow the meeting.

The Rippey library is seeking applications for a part-time library director, 15-20 hours weekly. Interested persons can call the library at 515-436-7714 or visit the library at 224 Main St, Rippey. Application deadline is Monday, April 4.
Bardole Farms meeting: The annual Bardole Farms meeting was held in Rippey this year instead of meeting in Davenport, since three families are in Iowa. Donald and Alice Bardole from Williamsburg arrived in the afternoon and stayed with Kevin and Mary Hick. Jay and Ellen Bardole, of Vincennes, IN, arrive a little later and stayed with Roy and Phyllis Bardole. Dick and Jo Bardole met us all at Kevin and Mary Hick’s and we went to Jefferson to eat supper at Bett and Bev’s. When we finished eating we headed out to the hospital to visit our Aunt Avis Jantz. She is in long term and really enjoyed seeing all of us. He is the sister of Mary Bardole, Jay, Roy, Donald, Dick and Mary Ann’s mother.
Saturday morning we met over at Dick and Jo Bardole’s for the meeting. At noon we went down to Kevin and Mary’s for a potluck meal. afternoon we all went through a cedar chest that was their mom’s. It had several dresses, including one from her wedding that Mary Ann was married in. Also, lots of other dresses Mary Bardole had worn, including her mother Clara Hawley’s wedding dress and the one worn for their 50th anniversary. There were lots of other items that we sorted through and designated some to go to the Historical Museum. Other things were shared and some were tossed. We then went up to Paton to eat at 209 Main. It was a cool rainy night, but we had fun and enjoyed a good meal. Ended the night back at Mary Ann and Kevin’s and discussed some movies we are trying to save on DVD.
Sunday morning several of us went in to bell choir practice before Sunday School. There were many Bardoles in church to “swell” the crowd, including Peter, Yvette, Arthur, Avery, and Aden Bardole from Jefferson, Schyler and Lauren Bardole from Churdan, and Tim, Lori, and Cassie Bardole from Rippey.
The “older” Bardoles had reservations in Perry at the Hotel Pattee and we enjoyed another delightful meal with more visiting. Afterwards, we were able to tour the Hotel and see a couple of the rooms. Then we bid Donald and Alice farewell as they headed back home to Williamsburg. The rest of us stopped out at the cemetery to check on gravestones that belonged to Nathan and Alberta Bardole’s first set of twins and also the twin of their dad, Paul. At the time Nathan and Alberta did not have a gravestone, so the stones were put in back of the stone of Nathan’s parents William and Eliza Bardole. There is a plan to have them moved to their proper place.
We then went back to Roy and Phyllis’ to visit some more. Tim, Lori, and Cassie and Ozzie, their dog, came over for a visit then also and we enjoyed some popcorn. It was an enjoyable weekend. We are trying to find a time this summer when we can all get together out in the middle of Illinois, so the cousins can get reacquainted. ~submitted by Phyllis Bardole
